Senior Luncheon

Three ladies check guests in |
For the
second time this year Broadway Gardens in South Portland were willing to come
and share knowledge and develop interest in plants and gardens. Raychell Libby,
one of the staff at the Gardens was the speaker on this occasion. She brought
with her a number of plants that the attendees were anxious to pick up and take
home to their own gardens. Additionally she brought with her a number of plant
specimens that she showed how to work with and the types of soil and other soil
enhancers that are useful in home gardens.
Before they come |
Filling in spaces |
The
community is well represented after the callers have gotten in touch with the local
senior community that appears to be growing. Many come because a number of
their friends and new acquaintances have indicated they wouldn’t miss this once
a month activity that is not only well attended by the local community but also
members of the church that are willing to come and assist in serving, preparing
the meal and also to set up and take down the chairs and table for this monthly
event.

The idea
that came out of the once a month Meals on Wheels that was sponsored by the
Southern Maine Agency on Aging. Brad Morrison and Marlene Tordoff got together
to plan and move this activity forward. Brad is the chef and often has a number
of other members working with him in the kitchen to dish out the meals and to
clean up the dishes. Marlene is the caller organizer and the principle in
getting programs for each get together.
Several of
our members are responsible for pouring coffee, juice and water as well as
serve the full course menue.
