On December 14 the Senior Luncheon team prepared and put on a well received fellowship time, entertainment and meal for the Senior Community of South Portland. Held in Ellis Hall the team began arriving around 9 AM to begin the process of setting up for a planned 65 or so people. After tables and chairs were set up by Dan, Len, Dick and Art, then Pam D was able to place the centerpieces for each of the nine tables. Centerpieces were greens and a bow around a cracked glass goblet. Silverware and festive napkins were also placed along with salt and pepper shakers and butter pats. Each table had one chair that had a sticky dot placed on it. Anyone sitting in that chair later would be able to take the centerpiece for that table home.
While this was happening in the hall Brad, Dick S. and Rosemary were in the kitchen preparing the meal, coffee and desserts. Today the meal would consist of green beans, scalloped potatoes, and meat loaf. Bread was also placed on the tables by the servers and Christmas cookies would follow after the meal.

Nearing the lunch hour |
A little after 10:30 AM Dick M began
playing Christmas music on his electronic piano. This certainly made the
setting up and early arriving guests more relaxing and entertaining at the same
time. Coffee was ready for those that needed a cup. All was in place long
before the majority of the guests would arrive.
Joanne and Susan greeted folks as
they came through the door and collected donations of money from those that
were able to contribute.

More of the guests |
Around 11:15 AM Doc’s Banjo Band arrived with Doc, Eric, Steve and Peter ready to give all in attendance some really entertaining music and conversation. Songs that they played allowed many of those present to reminisce about our earlier
lives. After a little more than ½
an hour of playing the band wound up its gift of music and we were all ready
for lunch.

Ruth D had acquired the band for this
occasion. She also did the introductions and announcements and followed the
entertainment with a hearty thank you to the band. Before the meal Ruth also
offered the blessing.
It takes a village and we are |
In the kitchen Brad, Len and Art
dished out the food that was then passed by Barbara and Rosemary to the waiting
hands of servers Kathy, Janice, and Pat to be taken to the guests.
Once the meal was over the guests
left the premises knowing that our Senior Community Luncheon and Entertainment
will not be held in January and February but will resume in March. We also
thank Tom N for pitching in and helping to clean up the dishes.
Sally and Dan |
We want to extend our gratitude to
Brad and all the members of Peoples UMC that helped in some way to make this a
meaningful occasion for all of us. We also extend our thanks and gratitude to
all of the folks who came for a meal, fellowship and entertainment. See you all
again in March if not sooner!
