Support "End The Growling" Campaign

Support “End the Growling Campaign”

An event that is forthcoming is the packing project for the “End the Growling” campaign. Money for the project and also for packing,  we hope will  provide30,000 meal packets for distribution to local food cupboards and also to be shipped to Haiti where the need for food is still great. Cory Heatley of Thornton Heights UMC is heading up the project and securing Outreach Inc. through which the packets will be distributed. This years packing will be of beans and rice with seasoning to make soups.
We are in the process of putting together teams of 12, rather quickly, to raise the funds and to pack the meals beginning at 1 PM on April 9. The packing this year will take place in Ellis Hall at Peoples UMC. In other words we are this year’s home base for the packing.   65% of the money needs to be to Cory to send to Outreach by March 4 and the remainder by March 25. The raising of funds is similar to how money is gathered for most Marathons in that each participant/team member is responsible for raising, if possible, $45 each. Expecting that each team of 12 should be able to pack 150 meals per hour that makes each meal packed cost approximately $.30 considering the cost of shipment to Haiti for those meals that are sent there.

Again, half of all the meals packed will remain with local food cupboards  in our area for local dispersal.

First we need team(s). Are you able to join one of the Peoples Packers Teams? Presently there are two teams formed or being formed. We may very well be able to put together at least three teams from Peoples. The other churches in the Casco Bay Cluster will also be putting together teams.

Are you willing to raise money for the cause? If you are able and wish to fill out a check for the cause make it out to Outreach Inc. with a memo for “End the Growling”. If you raise cash there will be a basket in the back of the church for this purpose. There is a basket to place contributions in at each of the Wednesday night Lenten services. Collections at the locations where the services are held are credited to that churches total.

If you are unable to participate in the packing on April 9 but would like to contribute to the cause please feel free to add your contribution to the Peoples basket.

Men women and teens are welcome to participate.
