Pentecost and Children
The coming
of the Holy Spirit was celebrated in church on June 8, 2014 with a
spirit-filled service led by Pastor Tom Frey, the Choir, Debbie Cole, and the
Sunday school children. We who were the congregation on that day had much to
take home and think and pray about during this
following week. In the call to worship we all shared the following:
Holy Spirit, rain down on this place. Let
our souls drink your goodness. Let our hearts overflow. Holy Spirit rain down
on this place. May we feel your presence this day, Holy Spirit. Like the people
gathered on the Day of Pentecost. May you rush into our hearts and inebriate
our souls. May we be empowered by your Spirit to live a life more faithful to
God. AmenThis Call to Worship led to a spirited anthem by the red clad choir, the scripture reading of Acts 2:1-2 and the message titled “Unexpected Spirit”. Once the regular portion of the service was complete it was time for the “spirit-filled” younger folks to experience a time with promotion, presentation and a video record of what went on during the Sunday school year. Some children were reluctant to come forward while others were more outgoing in their opportunity to come forward. Rosemary, Pastor Tom, Andy and Dick were all involved with the children during their portion of the service.
All of the
adults that helped with Sunday school during the course of the year were
recognized and we thank them all for serving in their endeavors to bring the
word of Jesus Christ into the lives of the children.
Following
the service all were invited to Ellis Hall for an Ice Cream Social. It was a
rather fun way of concluding this year’s Sunday school year. A collection was
also taken up to help with the expenses of Kelly Frey’s mission trip to Costa
Rica later this summer.
We hope
everyone and more will keep in mind this summer’s VBS which will be held August
11-14 from 9 to 12 in and around Ellis Hall. A special visit from Spark’s Ark
will take place on Tuesday the twelfth at 10 AM. The theme for this year’s
program involves the Heifer Project.
That theme
will also carry over into next fall’s new year of Sunday school.
