End the Growling

End the Growling
This is one way of saying that there are a lot of stomachs making noises that are the sound of someone who is hungry. For the 4th year the Casco Bay Cluster of the United Methodist Church is sponsoring a food packing event that will culminate with the end of this year's collection and packing on Saturday April 27 in Ellis Hall at Peoples United Methodist Church. Teams from each church and other groups interested will be forming teams of at least 10 people who are responsible for two functions. One is that each individual that signs up to pack are to gather donations that at least  total $45 towards the payment of dry goods that will be packed on the above mentioned date. Each individual will be be given a sheet that they can use to record donations that they will turn in either in cash or check form to their Team Captain. The team captain then will record each individual on the teams roster and the amount turned in. At least 65% of the money will need to be in two to three weeks ahead of the packing date and the other 35% will be turned in by the actual packing date. The amount of money determines the amount of food product that can be purchased and distributed through Outreach Inc. It is is to Outreach Inc. that checks need to be made out with a memo "End the Growling".
At Peoples we have three teams started; People Packers, Tuesday Morning and Hunger Stoppers. Art Tordoff, Rosemary Herd, and Tom Nelson are the captains at present. If you would like to join us and haven't been contacted please let us know.
Last year all nine teams from the Cluster were responsible for packing over 26, 000 packets of food that were primarily distributed to pantries and cupboards locally or elsewhere in the state. Let's see if we can break that local record. We are here to serve.

Our next Senior Luncheon

The meal that followed the entertainment and prepared by Brad Morrison and assisted by a kitchen crew was appropriate for a date approaching St. Patrick’s Day. Corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes made up the main course while Irish bread was a popular inclusion on the menu. The dessert was a brownie with green frosting. Coffee, tea and water filled out the meal.
There were 28 members of the church that assisted in serving the meal as well as setting up tables and chairs and then taking them down after most of the folks had left. What a great crew appeared on this occasion as well as helped in calling all of the invitees. 52 guests from the community appreciated the entertainment, the meal, the service and the fellowship.

April 11, 2019 will be the next date for the Senior Community Luncheon. We hope to see you there!
